Primary colours

Remember the jelly balls? We put about a teaspoon of the tiny polyacrylamide balls into glasses full of water and food colouring, and by morning, we had this:

What had started out as a tiny clump of white beads at the bottom of a glass of coloured water magically transformed into glasses full of nearly invisible jelly marbles. We scooped some out to see if they had, indeed, acquired a colour of their own. This is what we got:

They are coloured, but not very brightly. Maybe they’ll get darker if the marinate more? We plan to leave them in for a few more days and then see what happens next.
